So is silence a good thing or a bad thing?

Complicated to answer. My Italian + Brazilian sides have historically been very vocal + rambunctious, usually followed by lots of hand gesturing + exaggerated sense of humor. Where my Japanese side is polar opposite. Very quiet + very reserved. Silence can be interpreted in so many different ways via careful observation. Now from my US POV, I learned that being vocal inside corporate America is totally different than being vocal outside of it. (For the record, I’m basing it on the fact that I spent +/- 80% of my awake time working. For 20+yrs.)

My penny’s worth – there’s a time + place for speaking up. As long as it is not done out of malice for another being, go for it. And sometimes, it’s just not worth your time + energy, so enjoy the silence.
